Two new direct charter flights planned to Jamaica from Sweden

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (JIS) -- The confirmation of two new direct charter flights to Jamaica from Sweden, and opportunities in the renewable energy sector were among topics recently discussed by High Commissioner Aloun N’dombet-Assamba with tourism and business interests in Stockholm.

N’dombet-Assamba, who is Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, had visited Sweden to present her credentials as non-resident ambassador to the King of Swedan.

In an interview on February 25, N’dombet-Assamba said her visit to Sweden, from February 12 to 24, was successful.

“Officers of the Jamaica Tourist Board and JAMPRO accompanied me and we took the opportunity to meet with tourism partners and also to meet with potential investors, people who are interested in investing in Jamaica. Out of that, we have confirmed that there will be two new direct flights,” she said.

“We also met with persons who are interested in renewable energy, both solar as well as wave action, and we are looking towards developing our discussions with them, to see how we can interest them in Jamaica,” the high commissioner added.

N’dombet-Assamba, who is also non-resident ambassador to Ireland, Norway, Denmark and Finland, said she plans to work closely with JAMPRO and the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) to develop a coordinated approach to increase investments in Jamaica.

In addition to completing the formalities associated with the accreditation process, the high commissioner held meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sweden, including the deputy chief of protocol, the director of the Americas Department, the minister counsellor in the Americas Department and the director general of trade.

The delegation also met with key travel, business and investment interests in Sweden, including Thomas Cook (trading as Ving), Sea based Industry AB, and representatives of the Swedish Renewable Energy Association, Uppsala Reggae Festival and Ericsson.

N’dombet Assamba met with members of the Jamaican community, and attended a special launch of Blackwell Rum and Island Outpost in Stockholm.

Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in Sweden, Lennart Anderson, facilitated the visit, while Sweden’s non-resident ambassador to Jamaica, Claes Hammar, attended some of the events
